Frequently asked questions

What is virtual testing
Virtual testing is a process in which your product is tested on various characteristics, such as drop resistance, failure behaviour or deformations. Numerical models are used to verify the performance of the product.
General
Why virtual testing?
Virtual testing can save a lot of your time and money. Virtual testing can reduce your time-to-market and eliminates the need to adjust design parameters in a late stage of development. This avoids unnecessary costs and frustration.
General
To what can you apply virtual testing?
We can simulate almost any aspect of ‘mechanical’ behaviour, such as: motion, deformations, stiffness and strength friction, impact analysis, dynamic behaviour accuracy, vibrations / resonance, frequencies fatigue and life time crack growth, heating, cooling fluid flow, magnetism, seismic effects manufacturing processes Material behaviour that we can take into account: large deformations / non linear behaviour (material & geometry), rate dependency / viscoelastic behaviour, history dependent / plastic deformation, advanced materials / composite structures, failure behaviour and failure mechanisms
General
How to virtually test
Reden builds a virtual model of your product. Most of the tests you perform on your physical product can be performed by us on the virtual product. As a result, you need fewer prototypes and less testing. If the virtual model does not meet the desired performance, we adjust the parameters until the product has the desired properties.
General
Why is it that your development method is cheaper than traditional trial & error?
Trial and error is only cheaper if it’s first time right and that is seldom the case. Modelling & Simulation will almost always lead to first time right. Whatever the nature of your product development challenges, Modelling & Simulation is by far the most cost-effective way to achieve results. So use it, if not with us than with one of our colleagues.
Modelling & Simulation
Modelling & Simulation mimics the real thing, but is never complete. Why trust the results?
Why trust the real thing? There is always a lot of white noise in your test setup and test results, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions. In modelling and simulation we can test single relations by removing the disturbing influence of other relations. Delete gravity, pretend solid fixture or whatever other trait you want to investigate, and validate its effect in smart test setups. The newly developed knowledge will help you navigate design space and choose a first time right solution!
Modelling & Simulation
We are struggling with thermal-mechanical problems. Can you help us solve them?
This is just the thing for us! Give us a call on +31 (0) 88 52 02 500 and let us fix it.
Modelling & Simulation
What is the right moment to start with Modelling & Simulation?
Most developers start too late! First ideas and principles can already be evaluated with the help of simple models!
Modelling & Simulation
What do you mean by Design space?
Designing a product that meets all requirements requires compromise. Especially regarding specifications! Understanding the range in which you can change a particular parameter, given the range of another set of parameters, is called design space.
Modelling & Simulation
Lean development is quite popular nowadays! How does your development method fit into this?
Lean is about avoiding waste, testing fast and failing cheap. Bingo! That's exactly what we do with modelling & simulation! No trial & error, only one prototype, first time right. It doesn't get much leaner than this.

How do I order Reves DSE?
Just send an email to info@reden.nl or call +31 (0) 88 52 02 500.
Reves DSE
How much does Reves DSE cost?
The license fee is € 495,- per year, for 3 concurrent users.
Reves DSE
What do you mean by knowledge rules and how do I use them?
A knowledge rule is a logical statement describing a validated relation between parameters. It can have a mathematical form (y=ax+b), a boolean (True, False) form or it can be a table or even programming code (if, then else, for).
Reves DSE
Can I calculate robustness?
Yes, you can! For every parameter in Reves DSE you can define an input range that will lead to an output range, showing the robustness of the solution.
Reves DSE
What about probabilistic designing?
Darned good question! Is a work in progress.
Reves DSE
What's the difference between Diamond and Reves DSE?
Diamond further refines the generic approach of Reves DSE for use in flow charting.‍
Diamond
Who should use Diamond?
Anyone interested in understanding and optimizing their mass-balance processes.‍
Diamond
Who manages the knowledge models in Diamond?
You do. Diamond provides the overall governance structure and visualization while you define and maintain your own models. ‍
Diamond
How about knowledge models and vendor lock-in in Diamond?
The knowledge models in Diamond are human-readable and stored in a database. They are not plug and play with other modelling environments, but they can easily be exported.‍
Diamond
What are the results of using Diamond?
A better understanding of processes, availability of knowledge models in a manageable environment and better strategic decisions resulting in higher profits.‍‍
Diamond
How does Diamond relate to product configurators/CPQ?
Diamond is a modelling environment, not a quotation tool. You model the process and Diamond answers your questions. Of course pricing could be one of your questions. ‍
Diamond
What is de average price range of projects?
Oh dear, the question about price. What does anything cost? Suppose you had first spent a xillion on various rounds of trial & error, building prototypes, doing tests, just to find out that the product still fails in the end. I think then you’d be thrilled to find out that we can do the job for a pittance! That is what we do for a living and we’re very good at it! But you might be better off beginning the development project with us, saving you lots of time and money from the start.
